Modification

Did you know the majority of family law issues are NOT divorce related? Life changes can affect a current court order. Many families have to modify previous orders set out in divorce, child support and spousal maintenance due to today’s economy, family issues or relocation. Whatever the reason, there are times when the current court order doesn’t satisfy the current situation.  Some examples for common circumstances requiring modification are:

If the parent paying the child support loses their job or is forced to take a lower-paying job, the court might reduce child support.

If the parent paying child support receives a higher paying job the court might increase child support.

If a parent with shared custody moves out of the area,  the spouse has a chemical or alcohol dependency problem, a parent changes work schedule affecting the children or a child is experiencing problems at home or school the court might change the parenting plan.

If you already have a court order and would like the court to reevaluate the terms, you have the opportunity for modification. Harry Friedlander can help you start this process and present your life changes to the court so you and your family can have a fair judgment.
